Transforming Palau To A Private Sector Driven Economy

During the TT days, the public sector was the “Cornucopia” of abundance. Government employment was a symbol of success, the pinnacle of respect and a ticket to the good life. That was easily understood because it paid high salaries, provided air conditioned offices and free vehicles to drive around. Even the gasoline was paid for. For those occupying leadership positions, the frequent travels to the TT Headquarters on Saipan or Washington DC were glamorous and not far from an all expense paid Disneyland “vacation”. Funding sources was a non-concern because Uncle Sam had deep pockets and was always happy to dole out millions.
