Merry Christmas

Tia Belau Editorial, Dec. 24, 2012 —-

Tomorrow, Tuesday is Christmas. Today is Christmas. It is a significant date on the Christian calendar and a perhaps the biggest national holiday for the Republic of Palau.

Christmas is a festive season that captures the joy and celebration of gift exchanges and reconnecting with old friends and families.

While Christmas is uniquely Christian it is that joyous spirit of the season that has led Christmas today to take on a rather secular role, with Christians and non-Christians exchanging gifts and enjoying the beautiful lights of Christmas that adorns the main streets and inside many homes around the island.

But no matter how many Christmas lights, office parties, holiday feasts, and gifts, let us be gently reminded that the reason for the season is the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem 2,000 years ago.

Let us keep on to his message of love and forgiveness that continues to impact the world today.

For our regular readers, we wish you a merry Christmas, and to all of our readers, contributors, advertisers, a happy holiday — peace on earth, good will to all!
