Merry Christmas….

Have you any room ?…

Palau appears to be mellow this Christmas. The preparation for Bopha was more bustling; perhaps it is because when our lives are threatened, our natural response is to protect and defend it. Most of us hit the stores with gusto – 30 gallon water containers, plywood, and even kerosene stove were sold out. Candles, canned goods, foods and more foods were bought in abundance as we prepared for 3 days of destructive winds.  Despite difficulties and lack, we value our lives (and our loved ones) that we rise to protect it at any cost. And with the help of God we did; some lost their homes and personal properties, but donations have been pouring in which will help to rebuild and replace the lost material possessions.  As we sober up from the agitation of Bopha and transition into the joyful celebration of Christmas, let us not forget the One who truly loves us and as God incarnate was born in a manger to grant us the most precious gift of all – SALVATION.

Often we are inundated with images of Christmas as a time for buying expensive gifts. Parents, despite economic struggles, spend more than they can afford to try to keep up with some ethereal and unrealistic expectations, just to please their children. The sad truth is that, “money can’t buy love”.  And the happiness that it can afford is fleeting.

Some people will say that Christmas is a time spent together with loved ones. It is about spending time together and giving gifts from the heart. While this is true, Christmas is about celebrating Jesus. Recently, I have been meditating on John 3:16 which says, for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him, shall not perish but have eternal life. This is love in the purest highest form. He loves us that He gave His life for us. Giving is an outflow of love.

Those who know me, know that I am in need of a Savior.  My flaws are too many to count; my sins – anger, bitterness, envy,  struggles with forgiveness, destructive and sinful desires and so much more –  well I am just thankful that we have a loving God because without him, I’m hell bound on a bobsled with a broken break mechanism.  Despite all that I am, He loves me! Yea! He loves me and gave His precious Son to make a way for my Heavenly journey some day.

This love is for us all. We just need to take the time with Jesus this Christmas–asking Him to forgive our sins and making Him our Lord and Savior – that is His Christmas gift to us, which began a long time ago in Bethlehem and continues till today. Will you make room for Him this Christmas? Will you let Him be born in your life? Eternal life comes to those who believe and live in obedience to His words as an outflow of their love for Him. It is not about religion, it is about a relationship with Him.

Merry Christmas and may God bless!
