Medical Cannabis For The Southern States?

By Jackson Henry —-

Dr. Lucido has been a medical practitioner inSan Franciscosince 1979. He prescribes a special “medicine” to 900 patients annually. What is this special medicine? Well, you guessed it right. It is Cannabis, thanks to the legalization of Medical Cannabis (MC) inCaliforniain 1996 with the passage of Proposition #215.  Today, 14 states have also passed MC laws and more forthcoming. Dr. Lucido is now a member of US Medical Education Committee promoting and lecturing on the medical benefits of Cannabis.

Man’s quest to find medicine to cure ailments and extend longevity on earth is an incessant pursuit, and indeed, a noble mission. Without medicine, life can be curtailed short and needless deaths can impede a nation’s economic progress. Scientific research have demonstrated Cannabis to have impressive medicinal values and is now widely used as prescription for Glaucoma, Epilepsy, Insomnia, Cancer, Migraine headaches, anxiety and stress, among others.

History has it that MC was used as herbal cure going back 2,737 BCE. Cannabis is one of the 50 fundamental traditional medicines inChina. 2,000 BC, ancient Egyptians used Cannabis to treat Hemorrhoids.

Since the US Supreme Court’s decision backing the use of MC, many doctors now regard MC’s therapeutic practice as mainstream. MC has gained worldwide acceptance.

The decriminalization of Cannabis has also spread to other advanced nations like Israel, Switzerland, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Finland, Italyand Portugal. The city of Rasquera, Spainis the latest to legalize Cannabis. With favorable views and tolerance of Cannabis spreading worldwide, maybe its time OEK seriously look at legalizing MC as means to draw additional visitors to boost the nation’s tax base. It should be taxed at 30%, making it the 2nd largest source of government’s revenue. This is no laughing matter.Australia’s pain medicine is a $34 billion market annually.

MC should be confined strictly to the southern states of Peleliu and Angaur. Their distance to Koror’s commercial center allows for better control, confinement and enforcement of MC laws.

MC can complementPalau’s image as the champion of the environment and the protector of sharks because Cannabis is nothing but a unique herbal plant that posses great medical values. Cannabis must be reclassified inPalau, not as an illegal drug under US Federal Schedule #I, but legal under Schedule #II, for medicinal use only. MC is regarded as a “compassionate law”, because it offers great relief to those suffering from cancer and AIDs. It is critical to place the supremacy of health before politics and economics before bigotry.

By approving MC laws inPalau, we segment our tourism market and liberate the economies of the impoverished southern states of Angaur and Peleliu.

It is crucial to separate medical science from politics in order to make sensible laws like MC work. Thomas Jefferson once said, “If the people let the Government decide what food to eat and what medicine to take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny”.

MC will not only boost our nation’s revenues but also makePalauone of the world’s champions of health and natural remedies.
